How the estimate is calculated
Soil volume is length × width × depth. Repeated beds are added before waste, and bag counts are rounded up after the selected waste percentage.
Example
An 8 ft × 4 ft raised bed filled 1 ft deep requires 32 cu ft, or about 1.19 cu yd. With 1.5 cu ft bags, the result rounds up to 22 full bags.
Before you buy
Use the inside dimensions of the bed and enter only the remaining depth that needs soil. Do not enter the bed’s full height if it already contains fill. This calculator does not estimate settlement, soil amendments, or weight.
