Material calculator
Flooring Calculator
Estimate the flooring area and full packages needed for a room, including extra material for cuts and waste.
How to use this calculator
Enter the room length and width, coverage per box, and your waste percentage. Add plank dimensions if you also want an approximate plank count.
Enter an optional price per box to estimate cost from the rounded box count.
How the estimate is calculated
The calculator multiplies room length by width, adds the selected waste percentage, divides by box coverage, and rounds up to full boxes. When plank dimensions are provided, it also divides the required material area by plank area and rounds up to an approximate whole-plank count.
Example
A 12 ft × 10 ft room with 10% waste requires 132 sq ft of material. At 24 sq ft per box, that rounds up to six boxes. With 6 in × 48 in planks, the same required area is approximately 66 planks.
Before you buy
Use the box coverage printed for the exact product. Patterned layouts, room shape, board direction, and unusable offcuts can change the waste needed.
Frequently asked questions
Is the plank count a purchase quantity?
Not necessarily. Boxes are the purchase quantity; plank count is an estimate based on the dimensions entered.
Does this plan the flooring layout?
No. It estimates material area and full boxes, not board placement or cut locations.
